world heritage center,
Ajanta is situated in Aurangabad district. there are thirty
caves in Ajenta some of which are unfinished (cave nos. 3,5,8,23).In these caves 25 caves are Sangharamas |

or Vihars (monasteries)
and remanning five (cave nos. 9,10,19,26,29) are Chaitya Grihas
(small temples).
These ancient caves are excavated between 2nd century BC to
7th century AD. There are lots of paintings of plants, flowers,
birds, animals. Pictures of gods and beasts. Statues of Buddha's,
Apsaras (dancers), yaksh, kinner ( face of man with body of
animal).
These caves are accidentally discovered by a British officer,
while he was hunting.
